The county road commissioner shall serve upon the occupant or owner or lessee of any property upon which any violation of this chapter occurs, by registered mail or by leaving at the place of residence of the occupant, owner or lessee, a notice requiring such occupant, owner, or lessee to remove or correct any violation of this chapter, specifying the location of the violation. If the violation is not corrected or the correction is not commenced and diligently prosecuted prior to the expiration of ten days after the service of such notice, the road commissioner shall immediately remove any fences, trees, shrubs, vines, hedges, or other growths which are in violation of this chapter and the expenses of such removal shall be a charge against the owner of the premises upon which the violation occurs. The road commissioner by suit in the name of the county may recover the expenses and such recovery shall be paid into the road fund of the county.
