Section: 50 - Duties of the Department of Child Support

The Department of Child Support Services shall be separate and independent from any other County department and shall be responsible for promptly and effectively establishing, modifying, and enforcing child support obligations, including medical support, enforcing spousal support orders established by a court of competent jurisdiction , and determining paternity in the case of a child born out of wedlock, and such further powers, duties, and responsibilities that may be delegated to a local child support agency pursuant to Division 17 (commencing with Section 17000) of the California Family Code, as amended from time to time.
